How and when will the European energy transition succeed? In the EU LIFE project TANDEMS, together with Belgian, Bulgarian and Dutch partner organizations, we are testing possible ways and solutions to produce and market energy in a clean, locally and decentrally managed way. TANDEMS aims to actively engage citizens in the transition to clean energy through knowledge exchange, the development of open collaboration models, and the designing and testing of pilot processes and prototypes.

TANDEMS brings together three European regions for this purpose: Antwerp in Belgium, Achterhoek in the Netherlands, and Burgas and Gabrovo in Bulgaria. And we, Oikoplus, supported the project consortium in communicating the project results by implementing an output-oriented participation process and designing a road show.

Watch the TANDEMS video

This video presents two innovative approaches for energy communities:

🔋 The Cost-Price Model: A transparent, non-profit pricing model for renewable electricity, rooted in real-world pilot projects.

🤝 The Open Collaboration Model: A step-by-step framework to build strong local partnerships between municipalities and citizen-led initiatives.

Both concepts empower energy communities to become real players in the energy transition — beyond subsidies, beyond market speculation.

The TANDEMS Open Collaboration Model (OCM) is a call to action for local communities ready to drive sustainable change through meaningful partnerships. By following its four steps – Discover, Dream, Design, and Deliver – local authorities working in tandem with a local energy community can turn ambitious energy transition visions into real, lasting impact .

Tandems Whitepaper: Business Models for Energy Sharing A Guide to Viable Energy Sharing

This whitepaper outlines a cost-price model for energy sharing, based on real projects in the Netherlands. It shows how municipalities and citizens can supply their own energy fairly, transparently, and with local reinvestment. By making energy sharing practical and scalable, communities can become active players in the energy transition.
