Solutions

In our projects, we work independently as partners to develop a wide range of solutions for specific tasks and problems.

We help to achieve communicative goals through customised strategies. As a rule, the aim is to increase the impact of research and innovation. There is no single strategy that is equally suitable for all our projects. That’s why we always find customised solutions, that combine established and new methods that are interactive, participative and contemporary.

Playful workshops

The Highest Form of Research: Play

We believe that playful approaches unleash creativity, foster collaboration, and break down barriers, which are essential in tackling complex problems. One of our key methods is role play, where team members step into different perspectives to explore innovative solutions and empathize with diverse viewpoints. Additionally, we use LEGO as a tool for building shared understanding and visualizing ideas. These playful strategies allow multinational project teams to engage deeply with topics, spark fresh insights, and work together more effectively, regardless of expertise or background.

Citizen science

Science by the People!

We are committed to empowering communities through Citizen Science. By bridging the gap between researchers and the public, we help foster inclusive, participatory approaches to scientific discovery.

We have developed an innovative citizen science app that supports agriculture in monitoring the spread of invasive pests. The IPM Invasive Pest Monitoring App enables citizen scientists to contribute to the mapping of invasive species by uploading photos and entering relevant data such as host plants, weather conditions and location. The information collected provides valuable insights into the spread of pests such as the Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica), the oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis) and the peach fruit fly (Bactrocera zonata). The app is available for Android, iOS and as a browser version.

Web Development & Design

Great Projects Deserve Great Websites

Websites are the showcases of research and innovation projects. This is where project stakeholders and interested parties obtain information, and if they are done well, they are even an important source of information for those involved in the project. The information on a project website must be reliable and correct, it must present the project in detail, clarify its relevance and, ideally, present it in an attractive and exciting way.

We develop websites and social media presences for projects, products and services that are technically and visually up-to-date, and which also fulfil the FAIR criteria, i.e. are findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable.

Information Design

Turning Complexity Into Clarity

Information design is more than visual aesthetics—it’s about creating clear, accessible, and engaging ways to communicate complex ideas effectively. We merge creativity with strategy, ensuring every design serves a purpose: to inform, connect, and inspire. Our user-centric approach leverages tools like data visualization, storytelling, and interactive media to transform scientific and technical content into compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.

By prioritizing clarity, inclusivity, and visual appeal, we help make intricate research and data understandable and actionable. Whether through infographics, interactive visualizations, or multimedia storytelling, we bring research to life, ensuring it reaches and engages stakeholders ranging from experts to the general public. At the heart of our work is a commitment to effective science communication, where every design choice is guided by the goal of making knowledge accessible, impactful, and meaningful.

Documentary Videography

Innovation in Motion

We harness the power of motion pictures to transform science communication. Through compelling storytelling, dynamic visuals, and state-of-the-art animation, we bring complex scientific concepts to life. From bite-sized explainer videos to immersive documentaries, we create narratives that bridge the gap between science and society. By translating data into visually engaging stories, we spark curiosity, foster understanding, and encourage communities to connect with science like never before.

Our project partners know firsthand what it means to collaborate with Oikoplus. We invite them to step in front of the camera and share their work in their own words, using their personal voice. The result? Not just polished promotional videos, but authentic, relatable insights into the daily realities of research and innovation. These human-centered stories make complex ideas accessible, relatable, and genuinely engaging for all audiences.

Media Relations

Making Headlines

Research and innovation projects are typically time-limited, which makes building an independent media presence as a project consortium a bit of a challenge. But don’t worry—that’s where we come in. The good news is that the institutions involved in these projects often already have a solid reputation and an existing audience. Our job? To help project consortia tap into this potential efficiently, strategically, and yes, even creatively.

How do we do it? We craft press releases that are not just informative but actually grab attention. We also know that journalists and influencers are always on the hunt for a great story, so we create exciting opportunities for them—think press trips, behind-the-scenes looks, and interviews that bring the human side of innovation to life. In short, we make sure your project gets the spotlight it deserves, without having to reinvent the wheel.

Workshop
Participatory Formats

Involvement and Engagement

Right from the start of our very first project SYNCITY (2019-2021) we began exploring participatory forms of urban planning in Cureghem, a neighbourhood in the Brussels district of Anderlecht. The project involved geographers and architects, social workers and representatives of a local property owner organised as a cooperative. In the first year of the project, the theoretical and conceptual foundations were laid to get in touch with local residents and to involve them in workshops, which we called Urban Labs, not only in answering questions about the future and design of their neighbourhood, but also in the development of precisely these questions.

This has shown: Where political processes really involve people, where knowledge is imparted and solutions are discussed, simple and populist positions don’t stand a chance.

Since then, we have further developed our set of methods in the area of participation processes. Participation is a valuable building block not only for political processes, but also for complex research processes with ethical issues, for technology assessment and neighbouring areas.
